Homebuyer Education

Our goal through the Homebuyer Education Workshops is to take the uncertainty out of the home buying process. The workshop will take you step by step, from deciding whether homeownership is right for you, to shopping for a house that meets your family’s needs, obtaining a home mortgage, closing the sale, maintaining the house after it’s yours, and successfully handling your mortgage obligation.

Homebuyer Education is provided monthly alternating between Norfolk and Columbus and is 12 hours in length. We also offer Homebuyer Education classes in Spanish in our Columbus office every other month. We bring in professionals from the homebuying process to present the first-hand knowledge you need to make your home purchase go smoothly. Topics included are: Preparing for Homeownership; Budgeting and Credit Counseling; Available Mortgage Programs and Down Payment Assistance Programs; How to Obtain a Mortgage Loan; Shopping For The Right Home For You; Homeowner's Insurance; Closing On Your Loan; The Home Inspection; Home Safety; and Life as a Homeowner.

NeighborWorks® Northeast Nebraska is a REACH Affiliate. REACH stands for Readiness Education Awareness Collaborative for Homebuyers. REACH Affiliate Organizations work to deliver homebuyer education and improve Nebraska communities by increasing homeownership. We strive to remove barriers to homeownership through a statewide education delivery system, enhancing the success of homebuyers in achieving and maintaining homeownership. Our Reach Homebuyer Education is recognized throughout the state of Nebraska.
