Help For Potential Home Buyers
Published in the Norfolk Daily News on March 12, 2009
Need help with your home purchase? NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska wants potential homebuyers to know that purchasing a home may still be an option.
Affordable housing programs are even more important today than just one year ago, before the mortgage crisis hit across the nation. Housing programs, such as those administered by NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska, can provide the opportunity for families to become homeowners who may not otherwise be able to purchase a home without this financial assistance.
Options are still available for potential homebuyers. With the change in mortgage products, more funds for down payment, closing costs and sometimes reserves are required up front for the homebuyer to qualify for a loan.
Through the programs provided by NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska, a potential homebuyer can obtain assistance of up to $25,000 to help them to obtain a mortgage loan and keep their payments lower. An approved family is only required to invest $1,000 of their own funds for the purchase.
During 2008, 35 families were able to become homeowners as a result of the various affordable housing programs provided by NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska.
Since NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska began operations in 1997, more than 365 families have become homeowners through the programs. These homebuyers purchased homes that were developed in the NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska service area in Antelope, Boone, Colfax, Cuming, Madison, Pierce, Platte, Stanton and Wayne counties.
