Community Revitalization in Schuyler

Rural Nebraska is also seeing the benefits of the programs that NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska has to offer. This new home is being constructed on a lot where a dilapidated home was once located. Through a partnership with the community of Schuyler, this property was identified as a nuisance and needed to be demolished and in it’s place a new home is being constructed. This home will be sold to a family with low-to-moderate income who will receive down payment/closing cost assistance to help in the purchase of the home.

Future new construction projects are already being planned for the community of Schuyler and another partnership is being formed. In the past, Schuyler Community Schools has been involved in constructing the only newly constructed homes in the community. Now NWNEN will be partnering with the school as the General Contractor for these projects. This is a win-win situation for the High School and the community of Schuyler. The students learn from the hands-on experience of building a home while the community benefits by having a new home to improve their housing stock.

All of this activity is exciting for economic development coordinator, Kem Cavanah, of the Schuyler Development Company who stated. “NeighborWorks provides both the needed resources and the hands-on expertise necessary for communities to succeed. Partnering with NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska remains a great decision for the Schuyler community. Good people – great partner. NeighborWorks works!”
